Areas of Experience

Suicide Prevention & Crisis Intervention: At Dartmouth College, I coordinate and supervise our Suicide Prevention program and provide evidence-based suicide prevention & crisis intervention trainings to students, staff, and faculty as means to increase mental health awareness and contribute to creating a culture of care. Each training is intentionally tailored to the specific department or population we are presenting to.

I also serve on a 24/7 on-call crisis rotation and support after-hour mental health emergencies throughout several weeks during the year.

Refugee & Immigrant Population: I have experience providing individual and group psychotherapy as well as working closely with the refugee, undocumented, transborder, immigrant, and international student population at different settings including higher education and in the community.

I was also a volunteer at Survivors of Torture, International in San Diego for several years. As a volunteer, I have had the opportunity to work with the refugee and immigrant population from diverse age range and backgrounds. In my clinical and volunteer role, I have supported clients experiencing acculturative stress and cultural adjustment by providing individual and tailored assistance to each in fluent Portuguese and English, conversational Spanish, as well as by writing letters of courage and strength.

Transborder Student Ally: Received training in 2020 from the Transborder Student Ally Program, which mission is to create a visible network of culturally competent allies in higher education institutions, high schools and communities in San Diego-Tijuana border region for the Transfronterizx student population.

Safe Space Ally: Received training in 2019 from the University of San Diego as a Safe Space Ally, which serves as a marker of validation, support, and respect for members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ+) communities.

Mindfulness: In 2024, I gained my certification as a mindfulness instructor through the Mindfulness Institute of Emerging Adults (MIEA). The MIEA mindfulness program was specifically designed for college students and young adults to support them in navigating common challenges such as academic stress, life transitions, and emotional well-being. Through cultivating present-moment awareness, this program helps enhance focus, resilience, and self-compassion. I have had the pleasure to teach several classes to undergraduate and graduate students as well as lead a 3-hour silent mindfulness retreat.

Sexual Assault Prevention, Education, and Advocacy: As a C.A.R.E. Advocate, I was responsible for assisting the development and implementation of resources and education pertaining to sexual violence at USD’s campus. I worked closely with the Women’s Commons, LGBTQ+ & Allies Commons, Black Student Resource Commons, United Front Multicultural Commons, Center for Health and Wellness, Student Affairs, and the Department of Public Safety to increase advocacy, awareness, action, and support for those impacted by sexual assault, relationship violence, and stalking within the campus community. In my role, I assisted, on an individual basis, students who had been impacted by sexual violence by providing them with resources and support. I also worked closely with the C.A.R.E. team and was responsible for providing monthly trainings to all advocates, sergeants, Title IX, and student affairs representatives.

Older Adult Population: With over 3 years volunteering with the older adult population, I have experience providing a safe, welcoming, and compassionate space for the elders by engaging in conversations, story-telling, and diverse types of expressive arts such as painting and drawing.
